Authorities have identified a man who was killed in an avalanche east of Salt Lake City.

Unified Police say 49-year-old Douglas Green of Salt Lake City was skiing on Thursday when he was killed by the fast-moving snow.

Sgt. Paul Barker says a 50-year-old skier was partially buried by the avalanche. He was in stable condition.

Barker says several people were skiing in a spot between Millcreek and Big Cottonwood canyons, when the avalanche occurred. The other skiers were able to leave.

Utah Avalanche Center Director Mark Staples says an avalanche warning that's been in effect will expire Friday, but avalanches could still be triggered.
