ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities say a 400-foot Ferris wheel in Orlando stopped moving for more than 45 minutes Friday, stranding riders aboard.
Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Kathleen Kennedy told The Associated Press that a power to the Orlando Eye was subsequently restored at least intermittently with a generator and that firefighters were slowly helping people off the gondolas.
Kennedy says she doesn't know how many people became stranded and she had no initial reports of any injuries.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that people were tweeting from the ride that the power had been going on and off.
Kennedy told AP that rescue climbers had been dispatched to the site, but weren't called into action.
She says she had no immediate indication what caused the ride to stop.
