Atlanta police says officers shot and wounded a man inside a stolen truck after he rammed the pickup into a gas line meter and a patrol car during a brief pursuit.

Police Capt. Michael O'Connor tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/1JaEleJ) that the driver kept going, and officers fired because they were concerned the truck would strike them. It's not clear if the truck was headed toward the officers when they fired.

The chase began around 4 a.m. Friday and ended about minutes later. O'Connor said the suspect was hospitalized in stable condition.

O'Connor said the truck had been reported stolen in the nearby city of Forest Park, Georgia.

The races of the suspect and the officer were not immediately known.
