A spokesman at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport says an employee who became trapped under a machine at a cargo facility has died.

Airport spokesman John Kennedy said late Tuesday the employee was trapped under a hydraulic lift at the airport's north cargo facility.

Airport spokeswoman Katena Carvajales said the accident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday. Rescuers worked for more than two hours to try and free the man, and had put a helicopter on stand-by to take him to a hospital once he was freed. But Kennedy confirmed late Tuesday that he didn't survive.

Kennedy said the man's body has been removed from the scene, and airport authorities were awaiting the medical examiner to take possession of the body.
