PEORIA, Ariz. – Police have arrested a man for the murder of an Arizona community college football coach.
The Peoria Police Department says 30-year-old Justin McMahan was arrested Wednesday. He faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and armed robbery, stemming from the July 17 shooting of Land Jacobsen.
The 59-year-old Jacobsen had been the Phoenix college's head football coach since 2008. He died Tuesday from his injuries in the shooting.
According to court documents, Jacobsen invited McMahan to his home after the two met on the Internet. Once police arrested McMahan, he allegedly admitted to coming over to Jacobsen's house to deliver something.
He told police he shot Jacobsen after fighting with him in the kitchen.
McMahan's girlfriend reportedly said he had possession of the weapon described by police and a car matching the description of one seen in the area.
Jacobsen is a former quarterback at Division II Central Oklahoma. He also served as the head football coach at Scottsdale Community College from 1993-1995.
