An armed police officer was being pursued by state police in Belchertown, Massachusetts after a domestic incident with his wife Wednesday night, WGGB reported.

Police responded to a call shortly before 7:30 p.m. local time after the suspect was involved in an argument with his wife at the Quabbin Reservoir, police said.

The wife reported to police and her husband ran into the woods with a firearm.

State police deployed several troopers, K-9 units and the state police helicopter in search of the suspect in Quabbin Reservoir, Mass Live reported citing Sgt. Sean Murphy of the Massachusetts State Police Media Relations Office.

“We are sending many resources to the area,” Murphy said.

He said the incident was originally thought to be a hostage situation but no longer believed that to be the case.
