LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas school aide is facing felony child abuse and misdemeanor battery charges after police say she was videotaped struggling in a classroom with two special needs students.
Las Vegas police say 28-year-old Lachelle McCraney was arrested Tuesday at Variety High School and held at the Clark County jail pending an initial court appearance. Police say she also uses the names Michelle James and Lachelle Deanne James.
Clark County school spokeswoman Amanda Fulkerson says McCraney worked under the name Lachelle James, and that she has been suspended without pay and will be fired if an arbitrator agrees.
A police report made public Wednesday says McCraney was videotaped wrestling an 11-year-old student to the floor of a classroom several times, and shoved another student into cabinets minutes later.
