A suspected gunman who allegedly took his ex-girlfriend and another woman hostage inside a New Jersey United Parcel Service facility on Monday was shot and wounded hours after the initial shots were fired, officials said.
The two women were freed unharmed hours after they were taken hostage at the UPS facility in Logan Township around 8:30 a.m., Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said. Shots were initially fired inside the building, leading police to report it as an active shooter situation, but no one was struck by the initial gunfire.
The man was taken to the hospital and the two women who were held hostage were not seriously injured, officials said.
A law enforcement source told Fox News the man, who is known to local police, took his ex-girlfriend and another woman hostage inside the building.
The incident at the facility, located about 20 miles south of Philadelphia, prompted a large response from local and county officials, who initially reported it as an active shooter situation. Video and photos from the scene showed police cruisers surrounding the loading dock area of the building in Logan Township. Armed officers could be seen crouching behind one of the vehicles.

“UPS is working with law enforcement as they respond to an active shooter situation at one of the company’s supply chain processing facilities in Logan Township, New Jersey. We cannot provide information about the identity of people involved at this time,” the company said in an initial statement.

The UPS facility was evacuated. Three Logan Township schools were placed on a modified lockdown, meaning no one can enter or leave the buildings.
