NEW YORK – A suburban mother charged with being a big-money Manhattan madam is headed for court. But her alleged accomplice won't be joining her.
Anna Gristina was due in court Thursday in her promoting-prostitution case. But co-defendant Jaynie Baker's court appearance was postponed.
A person familiar with the case told The Associated Press Tuesday that Baker has made a deal with prosecutors. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the agreement before it's aired in court.
Defense lawyer Norman Pattis says Gristina intends to go to trial, and he doesn't believe Baker has any information that could harm her.
Prosecutors say Gristina peddled prostitutes for 15 years and claimed law-enforcement connections. Her lawyers have said she was merely starting a matchmaking business.
She's asked a judge to dismiss the case.
