PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – A 92-year-old man lost control of his car and crashed into a lake, and three quick-thinking men jumped into the water, smashed out a window and saved the man.
Two of the Good Samaritans were in a restaurant and the third was walking nearby when Salvatore Mancuso drove into the lake around 1 p.m. Wednesday in Port St. Lucie.
Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers reports that Alton Brieske, Nikolas Guevara and Mike Markisello swam to the car as it filled with water.
Brieske is a Florida Atlantic University pre-med student. He says a bystander gave them a hammer to smash the window. Brieske pulled Mancuso out and gave revived him when they got to shore.
Police say he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
