Law enforcement authorities are looking for answers as to why Alan Tysheen Eugene Lassiter ended up at an apartment complex where he didn't live trying to end his children's lives.

Durham County jail officials say the 29-year-old Lassiter is charged with three counts of attempted murder and was jailed Monday on a bond of $2 million. Police say his 3- and 5-year-old daughters who had to be rescued from an apartment complex's pond Sunday night were hospitalized. His 7-year-old son escaped and ran for help.

Lassiter called 911 after trying to drown his two daughters and begged for help to come and save them.

The two girls were rescued by an off-duty sheriff's deputy who performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.
