Five public schools and a private school in the suburban Portland, Ore.-Vancouver, Wash., metro area are closed Wednesday because of threats against students and staff at one of the district's schools.

The Battle Ground School District in southwest Washington says on its website the threats were made Tuesday against Chief Umtuch Middle School near Vancouver. That school is closed, along with Captain Strong Primary, Summit View Middle School, CAM Academy and Battle Ground High School.

The closure affects more than 4,000 students.

The district says police declined to elaborate on the threats so as not to jeopardize the investigation. There's no word on when classes will resume.

In addition, the private Firm Foundation Christian School announced it is closed Wednesday, following the Battle Ground School District threat.
