Forty dairy cows are dead after the restless animals shifted the weight in a trailer and toppled a big-rig at an intersection in Southern California.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/Qhbg7W ) says 110 cows survived the Friday accident that shut down a San Jacinto intersection for six hours.

The big-rig was hauling cows to a desert dairy in Brawley from a San Jacinto dairy.

Investigators say the tractor-trailer rig was making a left turn from the eastbound Ramona Expressway to northbound Sanderson Avenue when it overturned.

Riverside County sheriff's investigators say the movement of cows inside the trailer as the truck attempted to turn appears to have caused the truck to overturn.
