Authorities say four teenagers died after their car skidded off a bridge into an icy creek in rural northern Illinois.

Will County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ken Kaupas (KOW'-puhs) says the bodies of the two boys and two girls, aged from 15 to 17, were recovered from Forked Creek near the city of Wilmington on Tuesday.

Kaupas says the teens had been missing since Monday evening. Authorities don't know exactly when the accident occurred.

He says it appears the driver hit a patch of water or ice and lost control. The car tore through a guard rail on the bridge and plunged into the water. Residents told police that heavy rain and snowmelt had swollen the creek's water level.

The teens all came from Wilmington, 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
