MALIBU, Calif. -- A small undersea earthquake has struck near the Channel Islands off the coast of Southern California.
A preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 4.0 quake hit at 10:42 p.m. Monday, three miles north-northeast of Santa Barbara Island and 39 miles south-southwest of Malibu at a depth of 10 miles.
Los Angeles and Ventura County sheriff's deputies say they did not receive any calls about the quake.
