Police in North Carolina say two people were shot during a robbery and a suspect was later shot by officers after a two-county chase that ended when the suspects crashed their getaway vehicle into a utility pole.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a statement that officers found the two shooting victims when they responded to a robbery call Wednesday. The statement said the shooting victims had minor, non-life threatening injuries.

After two suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, officers chased them into Catawba County, where the suspects crashed. Police said when officers attempted to arrest them, one suspect displayed a gun. Officers shot the suspect, who was taken to Catawba Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A second suspect was arrested without further incident.

Authorities say no officers were hurt.
