Authorities say three people are dead and two injured, including the gunman, after a shooting at a lumber company in North Carolina.

Sheriff Dempsey Owens says four people were shot early Friday at the McBride Lumber Co. just north of Star, in central North Carolina. Owens says three people were killed, and one was flown to a hospital.

He says the gunman shot himself at his home and was taken to a hospital. Authorities haven't released the names of the victims.

Owens says the shooter left a note, but he didn't give details of the content. He said witnesses reported the gunman was a disgruntled employee.

A person who answered the phone at the business said the company had no comment.
