DECATUR, Ga. – Police say two officers were shot in a gun battle Friday morning near the eastern edge of Atlanta, leaving one suspect hospitalized in critical condition.
A second suspect was captured late Friday morning after an hourslong search involving dozens of officers, police dogs and helicopters.
Cedric Alexander, a top police official in DeKalb County, says an AK-47 rifle was fired at 26-year-old Officer Tony Luong and 29-year-old Devon Perry.
Police Capt. Stephen Fore says both officers are expected to survive.
At a Friday afternoon news conference, Alexander said it was "only by the grace of God" that the shootout wasn't more serious.
After the second suspect was captured, Fore said police believe everyone involved in the gunfight is in custody, though they're still investigating whether those suspects may have had accomplices.
