CHICAGO -- Authorities say two people were shot to death at the Old Navy clothing store in the heart of the city's Loop retail corridor.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says a man and a woman were shot inside the store. He says they were dead when emergency responders arrived Friday morning at the scene, just blocks from Chicago's City Hall.

Police Officer Robert Perez says he doesn't believe there is any danger to the public.

After the shooting, crowds of shoppers and other pedestrians gathered outside the store, whose metal security gates had been lowered. Yellow police tape blocked off the scene.

A call to the Old Navy store went unanswered Friday. A spokeswoman at Old Navy's owner, Gap Inc., didn't have any immediate comment on the situation.
