WEBSTER, Mass.-- Two mother-son teams from central Massachusetts have been accused of claiming they were collecting money for a pair of law enforcement charities and instead using the funds for their personal use.
Fifty-four-year-old Cindy Carpenter and her 34-year-old son, Jason Fontaine, both of Webster, were arraigned on Thursday on more than 150 larceny counts in connection with the scheme.
They pleaded not guilty.
Police say they collected more than $11,000 for the Massachusetts State Police Association and the DARE program by soliciting donations from people in towns across the region.
Police say they instead used the money for themselves.
Police have issued warrants for 61-year-old Deborah Anderson and 31-year-old Christopher Anderson, both of Northbridge, for the same charges.
