Delaware State Police say two people were killed while crossing a highway near Rehoboth Beach.

State police say 33-year-old Scott Emory and 28-year-old Cheryl Dunn-Winchester, both of Rehoboth Beach, were walking across Delaware Route 1 about 2:20 a.m. and were struck by a car driven by 25-year-old Lisa Governa, also of Rehoboth Beach. State police say both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Governa was not injured. She was driving in the left-hand lane when the accident occurred just south of Delaware Route 24. Emory was pushing a bicycle at the time.

The roadway was closed for more than four hours as police investigated the accident. Investigators say alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash.
