BAGLEY, Minn. – Two children were dead and another in critical condition Saturday after the boat they were on capsized in a Minnesota lake.
The three were boating with their father in Clearwater Lake, 190 miles south of Clearwater County's seat of Bagley, on Friday afternoon when their boat overturned. The father, Dan Risland, swam to shore to get help, myFOXtwincities.com reported.
Rescue workers responding to the scene pulled the boys from the water and began CPR.
WCCO-TV identified the children as two-year-old Jacob Risland and his brothers, Zechariah Risland, 6, and Isaiah Risland, 8.
Both Jacob and Zechariah died of hypothermia after being transported to area hospitals, while Isaiah was airlifted to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis where he remained in critical condition Saturday, the Star Tribune said.
All three had been wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
It was believed that a strong wind had caught the boat's sail, causing it to tip over and throw the family into the freezing lake water.
