A 16-year-old boy has been indicted on a murder charge in the fire-related death of a veteran New York Police Department officer.

Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson says Marcell Dockery faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.

Dockery has already been arraigned on assault, arson and reckless-endangerment charges. He's being held without bail. His attorney Jesse Young hasn't returned a message seeking comment.

Authorities say Dockery lit a mattress on fire on the 13th floor of a Coney Island apartment building last weekend.

Police say Dockery set the fire out of boredom. They say officer Dennis Guerra and his partner were overcome by carbon monoxide and smoke while responding.

Guerra died Wednesday. His partner remains in critical but stable condition.

Guerra's funeral is scheduled for Monday.
