Rescuers are searching for a person who plunged into the sea after two powerboats collided off Long Island's southern coast.

The Coast Guard says the crash happened at about 4:50 a.m. Saturday in the Great South Bay, just west of the Robert Moses causeway near West Islip.

Authorities say a high-performance catamaran piloted by a drunk slammed into a 35-foot pleasure boat.

One person who fell from the pleasure craft disappeared and was feared lost.

The Coast Guard says divers and aircraft were participating in the search.

Authorities are asking boaters to stay away from the area while the search is under way.

Two people who were aboard the catamaran were hospitalized.

Suffolk Police said the operator of the catamaran, a 25-foot-Skater, has been charged with boating while intoxicated.
