Authorities say one person has been killed and the gunman wounded in a shooting inside a Dallas-area Walmart store.

Kaufman County sheriff's Capt. Fred Klingelberger says preliminary findings are that a man walked into the store Tuesday morning and fatally shot a male employee of the Walmart in the store's garden center.

Klingelberger initially said the gunman turned the gun on himself and died. He later said Kaufman city police subsequently told him the gunman survived and was taken to a hospital.

Klingelberger says the two men had an ongoing dispute but no other details were available as to what prompted the shooting in Kaufman, about 35 miles southeast of Dallas.

The store was evacuated and no other injuries were reported.

A message left with police was not immediately returned.
