Feeling like you need a bit of culture this weekend, or just want to try somewhere new?
Well now is your chance, as hundreds of the country's museums will open their doors, free of charge.
On Saturday, Sept. 24 museums across the U.S. will join Smithsonian magazine to celebrate the seventh annual National Museum Day.
Many of the grand institutions are on the list, such as Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art.
But dozens of other little gems are included, like the Ava Gardner Museum in Smithfield, North Carolina that pays homage to the silver screen actress, or the Air Zoo in Portage, Michigan, where kids get to try their hand at being aviators inside flight simulators.
Some are using the day for special openings, like the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, which is opening its new $7.5 million wing at the Tibbals Learning Center that includes an interactive three ring circus arena and refurbished circus wagons.
To get your free admission for two, sign up at the Smithsonian magazine’s site, where you can also do a search for a museum near you.
A ticket will get you entry to only one of the participating museums, excluding parking and special events and exhibits. It’s good to know that the offer is good for one ticket per household.
