Select Disney hotels offering 'mermaid school,' teaching people to swim like Ariel

Overwhelmed by the troubles of the human world? Select Walt Disney World resort hotels will be opening their first-ever “Mermaid Schools” this month, providing a one-of-a-kind opportunity to decide if Ariel’s aquatic lifestyle is the one for you.

As of this month, guests at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort and the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Florida can learn to swim like “The Little Mermaid” of the 1989 blockbuster flick with hour-long classes that the adventurous red-headed siren herself would surely approve of, Disney Parks Blog reports.

Aspiring mermaids look forward to being “fitted with a swimmable "tail” and led through activities “teaching them how to swim like a mermaid” in a pool on select dates at the three resorts. Classes, for $50 plus tax, will be offered through December 2019.

Joe O’Rourke, owner of The Mermaid Academy in Orlando, says that he feels incredibly “lucky” that Disney recruited his instructors for the inaugural mer-lessons.
