A big crowd has turned out at Universal Studios Hollywood for the opening of its new Harry Potter-themed attraction.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened before dawn Thursday, drawing thousands of muggles from across the country to the Los Angeles area.

Like its Orlando predecessor, the new park includes an immersive 3-D ride called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, along with an outdoor family coaster, Flight of the Hippogriff.

The Wizarding World also features depictions of Hogwarts castle and the village of Hogsmeade, both central backdrops for the “Harry Potter” book and movie series. Fans can enjoy sips of butterbeer and snack on exclusive magically-themed treats.

Earlier this week, tickets for Thursday's event sold out online, marking the first time the park was forced to stop online sales.  Although tickets still are available online for Friday and Saturday, the park has sold out of premium VIP tickets and the passes for skipping to the front of the line on those days.

Universal recently increased the price of all tickets. For visitors who buy tickets at the gate, regardless of the day of the week, single entry tickets are $115.
