A China Southern Airlines flight was forced to touch down early after a hailstorm shattered the plane’s windshield.

Flight CZ3101 was on its way from Guangzhou to Beijing on May 26 when hailstones rained down on the Airbus A380 at 37,000 feet, The New York Post reported. The aircraft’s nose and front window was severely damaged in the storm.

Captain He Xianghang quickly issued a call to air traffic control at Beijing Capital International Airport, according to The Sun, and officials granted permission for the damaged plane to land in the Chinese capital shortly before 12 pm.

Though China Southern Airlines did not immediately return Fox News’ request for comment, reps confirmed to The Straits Times that no one was injured as the plane went on to land safely.

Passengers, meanwhile, likened the dramatic landing to a roller coaster ride, as the aircraft hit turbulence multiple times as it descended.

"The plane was rocked three or four times, each lasting around half a minute," one flight CZ3101 passenger told China.org.cn.

"It felt like riding a roller coaster. I nearly vomited. It was so lucky that we made a safe landing," another agreed.

At least 143 flights through Beijing Capital airport were canceled on Sunday through 1 p.m. due to massive rainfall and strong winds, according to the outlet.
