Grapevine: Gingrich accuses FNC of playing favorites

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Playing Favorites?

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says Fox News Channel is in the tank for Mitt Romney.

Real Clear Politics was at Wednesday's private meeting with Delaware Tea Party leaders during which Gingrich said -- quote -- "I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through...We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we're more likely to get distortion out of Fox."

However, the numbers skew in Gingrich's favor.

Since announcing their candidacies - Gingrich last May, and Romney a month later - the former speaker has been on Fox News Channel air more than 100 times, that's 48 more times than Romney.

Gingrich, who used to be a Fox News contributor also made a point this week to say that he's sitting at CNN's table for the White House Correspondents dinner.

Payment Received

Meanwhile, Utah officials confirm they received a $500 cashiers check from the Gingrich campaign.

His first check to qualify for the primary there bounced.

Gingrich had said it was a technical mistake by the bank.

Vendors who provided goods and services to the campaign are reportedly wondering if they'll get paid anytime soon.

The Gingrich campaign is said to be more than $4 million in debt.

Lethal Weapon

And the police chief of Richlands, North Carolina has lost his gun and badge after failing an annual firearms exam.

He will still be able to perform administrative duties as chief but is not allowed to turn on his police cruiser lights or make traffic stops.

The chief there has been asked to take the test again.
