Updated

While on vacation last week, I did something very worthwhile. I finished reading the book "Lone Survivor" by Navy Seal Officer Marcus Luttrell, whom we had on the broadcast a couple of weeks ago.

Now the book captures the true spirit of America, along with the danger we all face from the jihadists that Luttrell fought so bravely. I recommend the "Lone Survivor" to anyone who wants to know the truth about the USA and the brave people who are defending it.

In contrast, I read yet another editorial by The New York Times lamenting that more Americans were not prosecuted and destroyed by the Abu Ghraib scandal. Marcus Luttrell and I have one thing in common. We are both sick of far-left media like The Times demonizing this country, concentrating hard on the bad stuff, which in a time of war will always happen.

On page 376 of the book, he writes, "I am left feeling that no matter how much time the drip-drop-drop of hostility toward us is perpetuated by the liberal press, the American people simply do not believe it. Some members of the media might think they can brainwash the public any time they like, but I know they can't. Not here. Not in the United States of America."

But the far left is giving the anti-American exposition the maximum effort. And Marcus Luttrell knows it. Tonight and in the weeks to come, "“The Factor”" will continue spotlighting the blatant bias and dishonesty that is running unchecked among some in the American media. Dissent is fine, dishonesty is not. When you have elements at NBC News lying outright on a daily basis, when you have The Seattle Post Intelligencer refusing to help the FBI in a terror investigation, when you have The San Francisco Chronicle printing hate filled anti-Christian diatribes when the paper would never do that with any other religious or ethnic group, you have a situation that is out of control.

Fair warning to the far left, summer may be over, but the heat on you is just beginning.

Finally, besides "Lone Survivor," I would like you to read my column on Iraq, which is posted on BillOreilly.com. I thought long and hard about this column and believe it is one of the best I've written. Iraq has turned millions of people against America. And that in itself is a huge tragedy.

Now the USA must find a new strategy without further damaging the nation. A note to the presidential candidates, that is job one. And that is “The Memo.”

Most Ridiculous Item

Time now for "The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day." We have a correction to make. A few weeks ago we did a report on some anti-Semitic stuff on a far-left Web site.

We mistakenly attributed some of that to a man named David Hoenig, but he was actually reporting on it and had nothing to do with it. So our information was incorrect. We apologize to Mr. Hoenig and to you for making the error, which is always ridiculous.

Also ridiculous, a beach brawl in San Diego. Cops say about 500 people started fighting on the sand and throwing bottles and cans all over the place. Sixteen were arrested. Lifeguards had to barricade themselves in their stands, and chaos was everywhere.

No report on what started the fracas, but authorities believe alcohol may have been involved. Do you think?
