Close Friend of Scott Peterson Talks

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: Now for an "On the Record" exclusive. Joining us from Modesto is Scott Peterson's close friend and financial adviser, Brian Ullrich.

Brian, thank you for joining us.

BRIAN ULLRICH, PETERSONS' FINANCIAL ADVISER: No problem.

VAN SUSTEREN: Brian, yesterday he had lunch with Scott. What was his mood?

ULLRICH: His mood is he's scared and he's nervous, and he's afraid for his family.

VAN SUSTEREN: When you say he's scared, do you mean that he's scared for himself or for some other reason?

ULLRICH: He's scared for his wife and the baby. I mean, he's afraid as to what possibly happened to them. Not knowing is really difficult.

VAN SUSTEREN: How many times have you seen him, would you estimate, since the disappearance of his wife on December 24?

ULLRICH: I would estimate about four times.

VAN SUSTEREN: Did he ever get emotional at all during that time, just talking about his wife?

ULLRICH: Yes, every time I saw him, he was emotional.

VAN SUSTEREN: What do you make of today's news that Brent, Laci's older brother, has now said that he does not support Scott because he confronted Scott on January 16 and Scott admitted to an affair?

ULLRICH: Well, naturally, I'm sorry to hear that both sides aren't combined to help find her. But regardless, we need to move on because I believe Laci is alive, and we need to find her and bring her back.

VAN SUSTEREN: Is that the Scott you know, having an affair with another woman while married to Laci?

ULLRICH: No.

VAN SUSTEREN: Does it surprise you?

ULLRICH: Yes, I was surprised because the way that I always saw them, they were very happy and very loving -- they were a nice couple. And you know, I need to hear from Scott that he had an affair before I can really, truly, 100 percent believe it.

VAN SUSTEREN: Now, your wife is a good friend of Laci's, right?

ULLRICH: Correct. She's actually my fiancee, and she went to kindergarten with Laci.

VAN SUSTEREN: What was her reaction to the news at least that Brent has now announced that he does not support Scott because Scott admitted to him on the 16th this affair?

ULLRICH: I haven't seen her since the press conference.

VAN SUSTEREN: Have you talked to her about the press conference?

ULLRICH: No.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you know whether or not she ever suspected that Scott was unfaithful to Laci?

ULLRICH: No. From past discussions with her, she never had any suspicion that he was having an affair. And when it first came out, we were both very doubtful. And she was in the same position I am, that we trust Scott and when Scott tells us that he had an affair, then that's when we move to he had an affair. Until then, I still...

VAN SUSTEREN: At this point, then, do you not think that he was having an affair? I'm still a little bit confused.

ULLRICH: I'm kind of 50-50. He could have -- it's more he could have. I'm not he definitely had an affair, and I'm not he didn't have an affair.

VAN SUSTEREN: What did Scott tell you that he was doing on the evening of December 23 and into the morning and afternoon on the 24th of December?

ULLRICH: You know, we didn't ever discuss what he was doing. When I went to the house on the 24th, when they had the helicopter searching the dry creek, he had said that he was fishing, and that's all we really asked. It's really hard for me because I'm emotional, too, because I really care about Laci and I care about Scott, and I can't believe that she's missing.

VAN SUSTEREN: When you were there on the 24th, did you notice anything unusual in the house at all?

ULLRICH: I didn't hear that.

VAN SUSTEREN: When you were there on the 24th, at Scott and Laci's, was there anything unusual in the house, anything that sort of piqued your interest at all, or was everything normal?

ULLRICH: I was there in the evening. I never went into the house. The police and Scott went into the house. But I was more outside in the street with some of the other friends, kind of comforting each other.

VAN SUSTEREN: Now, there has been some statements in the press that Scott has financial problems. You're his financial adviser. Do you have any information about whether or not he has financial problems?

ULLRICH: From the documentation that Scott showed me and from discussions with Scott and Laci, I find that to be an inaccurate statement.

VAN SUSTEREN: When did he show you the documentation, since she disappeared?

ULLRICH: No, just in the past of reviewing investments and their financial plan.

VAN SUSTEREN: So what is your theory? And I'm sure you and your fiancée have gone through talking about this. I mean, what do you think happened?

ULLRICH: I think that Laci walked out of her house to walk her dog and was abducted by either one person or a group of people and taken probably from the area.

VAN SUSTEREN: Is there anything about Scott that sort of sits in the back of your mind as unusual, that you sort of keep going over and over when you look back at your relationship with him, about their marriage?

ULLRICH: No. The only thing that I always saw was that they were very happy, and she was Scott's number one fan. I know the things that he was pursuing, she was always supporting him. And I'm sure that when she comes home, she will continue.

VAN SUSTEREN: Did Scott talk at all with you at lunch or at any time since the 23rd about these photos that apparently the police have?

ULLRICH: No. When we had lunch, we were discussing what strategy we were going to take to keep her picture in areas that would be seen by a lot of people.
