John Kennedy once famously said, "Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan."

But he just as easily could have added, "And defeated presidents are quickly treated like orphans."

Because nothing says "losing juice" for a president than losing his old friends while he's still president.

Barack Obama is finding out right now the hard way.

And this latest Republican win in Anthony Weiner’s old and once solidly Democratic congressional district, confirms it.

The guy is looking like kryptonite.

Stay away.

And on the president's latest signature piece of legislation...they are staying away.

Democratic stalwarts, including Senators Mary Landrieu, Joe Manchin, and Bob Casey. Representatives Peter DeFazio and Heath Shuler...the latest to say the president's jobs bill is all but a pill...and different medicine is needed.

Not a surprising rebuke for a president whose approval ratings are diving...but you would think they'd be doing that if his numbers were soaring?

I doubt it.

Now, be careful reading way too much into this, of course.

Only a few months ago, the president looked on top of the world when he called the order to take out Usama bin Laden "from" this world.

But that was then, this is now.

And Democrats are getting worried now, very, very worried. Not just about him, but about them.

It's all about them.

And now it's survival of the fittest, and the president doesn't look fit, so, they're having fits.

By nature, politicians are a fickle lot. Some would say a phony lot. They run to winners, and run even faster from losers.

Fairly or not, their indifference...

And in the case of in-your-face Democrats like Ed Koch, who supported the Republican Bob Turner in that New York House race; their defiance...it’s the clearest message yet...

More Obama

"Mister yes we can" has become, "No, apparently you can't."

Things can change.

But it says all you need to know about this president's political mudslide that the ones throwing the mud are increasingly...

On his side.
