Back in March, Samsung unveiled its answer to declining movie theater visits in the form of a 408-inch 4K display aimed squarely at movie theater chains. It was a very compelling offer, simply because once again theaters can boast about visuals beyond what is possible at home.
Four months on from that unveiling at Cinemacon 2017 and Samsung has installed the first of these massive displays at the Lotte Cinema World Tower in South Korea. You can see it in action below:
As well as the awesome visuals this screen promises to deliver, Samsung Audio Lab collaborated with Harman Professional Solutions to ensure the audio system was just as good. Harman's JBL system includes speakers bordering the display, a JBL Sculpted Surround system, and proprietary audio processing technology.
Anyone lucky enough to experience this Cinema Display will get to enjoy 4K visuals enhanced with High Dynamic Range (HDR). Brightness is rated at 146fL, which is 10x that of a standard theater projector, and this is the first display to achieve full compliance with the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) theater technology standards. What that means is, full spectrum color accuracy is assured.

What we don't know yet is how much one of these displays costs. That's probably not the major concern for movie theater chains, though. They will be more interested in how much higher the quality is over what they use now and whether this first installation continues to attract viewers. If it does, then expect Samsung to start receiving orders from US theaters very soon.
