Samsung unveils Galaxy NotePRO and Galaxy TabPRO tablets

Samsung is at the forefront in new tablets at this year's CES, introducing the Galaxy NotePRO and Galaxy TabPRO, both of which run Android 4.4, or KitKat. The tablet maker also upped the ante in displays with 12.2-inch screens that have a very high 2560x1600 resolution. The NotePRO comes with the Samsung S Pen.

Both will be available in the first quarter of 2014. Also coming soon: A 10.1- and 8.4-inch version of the TabPRO with KitKat.

Some new tablets run both Android and Windows. Asus, for example, introduced its latest Transformer-branded product, the Transformer Book Duet. It runs both Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2.2 and works as a laptop and as a detachable tablet. Most notably, as a tablet, it's got a bit more power behind it than many others, since it runs on an Intel Core i7 processor.

Also in the laptop/tablet mode, Lenovo introduced the MIIX 2, a detachable Windows 8.1 model. In addition to conventional laptop or tablet mode, it also operates in stand mode, where the subwoofer built into the dock faces you for a better viewing and listening experience.

Among the new bargain tablets, Acer launched the Iconia A1-830, a 7.9-inch Android model for $150, and the B1-720, a 7-inch tablet for $130.
