Police Investigate After Baby Dies of Suspected Salt Overdose in Hospital

Police are investigating the death of a baby who died after being given a suspected salt overdose in a British hospital.

The boy, who had been born prematurely, had been on a saline solution drip.

Horrified nurses realized the infant's sodium levels had suddenly rocketed and he was acutely dehydrated. Medics desperately fought to save him but he lost his fight for life three days later.

Last night, sources said early investigations showed the death had probably been caused by a blunder at the Queen's Medical Center in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

"It very much looks like there has been a huge mistake with the dosage quantities, " said a hospital insider.

"Tests on the baby before he died showed his salt levels had gone sky-high from being too low before he went on the drip."
