The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed right-hander Zack Greinke on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 29, with a left oblique strain.

The team initially expected their ace to miss only one start, however an MRI Saturday revealed that the strain is serious enough to require a DL stint.

The Diamondbacks have not yet given a timetable for Greinke's recovery. Manager Chip Hale said the team is "hoping" to have him back when they return from the All-Star break but admitted that might not be realistic.

Greinke, 32, is 10-3 with a 3.62 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 109 1/3 innings. After getting off to a rough start this season, Greinke has a 2.63 ERA in his last 12 starts and had a 1.63 ERA in the month of June.
