New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - On the same day the New York Yankees lost out on the Robinson Cano sweepstakes, the Bronx Bombers inked utility man Kelly Johnson to a one-year deal.

Last season as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays, Johnson hit .235 with 16 homers and 52 RBIs in 118 games.

With third baseman Alex Rodriguez facing a suspension and second baseman Cano bolting to the Pacific Northwest and signing with Seattle, Johnson offers the Yankees help at both positions entering 2014.

The eight-year veteran owns a career .253 batting average with 124 homers and 442 RBIs with Atlanta, Arizona, Toronto, and the Rays.
