New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner has landed on the 15-day disabled list with a bone bruise and strain of his right elbow.

Gardner was scratched from Wednesday's starting lineup due to right elbow soreness. He underwent an MRI.

In nine games this season, Gardner is hitting .321 with three runs batted in.

Gardner appeared in 159 games for the Yankees last season, batting .259 with career highs in both home runs (seven) and stolen bases (49) to go along with his 36 RBI and 87 runs scored. He was tied with Oakland's Coco Crisp for the American League lead in steals.

The Yankees have recalled pitcher Cody Eppley from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes- Barre.
