Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Tuesday to repair a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure, which has a recovery time of approximately 12-to-18 months.
Nova sustained the injury during an April 19 start against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander left the game after feeling discomfort in his pitching elbow in the fifth inning and an MRI conducted the next day revealed the severity of the injury.
Nova went 2-2 with an 8.27 earned run average over four starts this season.
