NEW YORK (AP) New York Yankees starter CC Sabathia exited Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians with right knee pain.
Sabathia struck out Yan Gomes in the third inning with a 91 MPH fastball. After the pitch, Sabathia stepped off the mound, visibly unhappy, and was visited by athletic trainer Steve Donohue and manager Joe Girardi, then left the game.
Sabathia allowed two runs on four hits in his 2 2-3 innings of work, walking four and striking out one. The runs came via Carlos Santana's first-inning two-run homer, the first home run the switch-hitting catcher has hit against a left-hander all season. Sabathia struggled with command, throwing only 30 of his 55 pitches for strikes. The four walks set a season high.
The Yankees said Sabathia was taken for an MRI and will be examined by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.
