CINCINNATI – Tu Holloway and Mark Lyons scored 22 points each as Xavier held off George Washington for an 81-74 win on Wednesday night.
Kenny Frease added 14 points as the Musketeers (14-5, 6-0 Atlantic 10 Conference) extended their conference-record home winning streak to 36 games. They set the record with an 88-77 win over previous record-holder Temple on Saturday.
Tony Taylor scored 21 points and Aaron Ware added 14 for the Colonials (10-10, 3-3), who lost their fourth consecutive game despite going 18 of 19 from the free-throw line (94.7 percent).
The teams combined for 14 ties and 16 lead changes before Xavier took the lead for good at 61-58 on Holloway's 3-pointer from the right corner with 8:17 left in the game.
The Musketeers made six free throws in eight tries in the last 1:01 to seal it.
