SPOKANE, Wash. – The smart guys got their win. Now, it's time for a tougher basketball test.
Coming off its second NCAA tournament victory in history, 12th-seeded Harvard now must face Michigan State in the third round of the East regional.
Last year in the third round, the Crimson lost 74-51 to Arizona. To avoid a repeat Saturday, they say they must turn the page more quickly on their opening victory, a 61-57 win over Cincinnati.
All five starters for Harvard (27-4) score in double figures, led by guard Wesley Saunders, who averages 14 a game.
Fourth-seeded Michigan State (27-8) is coming off a 93-78 win over Delaware. Senior forward Adreian Payne scored a career-high 41 points in that one.
The winner advances to the Sweet 16 in Madison Square Garden next week.
