Jerodis Williams rushed for two scores and 104 yards, helping Furman ease past Elon 31-17 Saturday in Southern Conference play.

Williams had a 1-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter and a 4-yarder in the second, staking the Paladins (3-6, 2-4) out to a 14-7 advantage. Furman added to it when Marcus McMorris recovered a Phoenix fumble and rumbled for a 95-yard score.

Ernie Cain, who had 60 yards rushing for Furman, got 47 of those on a touchdown run with 4:29 before halftime to put the Paladins up 28-10. Ray Early kicked a 22-yard field goal for a 31-10 lead midway through the third quarter.

The stats were close, as Furman outgained Elon (3-5, 1-4) by just four yards (367-363) and each team committed only one turnover, but the Paladins' takeaway directly resulted in the long return for a score. Furman avoided their first four-game losing skid since 1998.
