What they said at The Open Championship - Final Round

Lytham St. Annes, England – The pedigree of British Open winners remained high with Phil Mickelson's rally on Sunday.

Of the previous 15 Opens at Muirfield, 13 were won by World Golf Hall of Fame members. Make it 14 of 16 as Mickelson was inducted in 2012.

"It's amazing to be a part of any British Open champion list. To win here at Muirfield is just amazing. The was probably the greatest and most difficult win of my career here at the British Open. It feels amazing."

The final major of the year will be the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club. The list of winners there is good, but not nearly as impressive as at Muirfield.

Two players that have won at both were Lee Trevino and Jack Nicklaus.

Could we be looking at another potential Hall of Fame winner of the season's final major?

Here's what some players had to say after the final round of the 142nd Open Championship:

- IAN POULTER, who made an improbable run towards the lead, but was unable to get into red figures to end the championship: "The excitement, the atmosphere, the fans out there were certainly giving me a lot of electricity and pumping me up. It's nice to be in that position when you're playing in front of a home crowd, holing 15-foot putts for eagles, birdies, and running up that leaderboard. Today was the day where I felt the putter started to work."

- LEE WESTWOOD, who was going for his first major championship, but couldn't keep up with winner Phil Mickelson: "Phil must have played really well. Five- under was a good round of golf this afternoon. You birdie four of the last six round here any day is good going, but to do it today in the last round of a major is an even better finish."

- HENRIK STENSON, posted his first runner-up finish in a major, and explained why he wasn't able to hold off Mickelson: "I'm very happy with my performance. I loved the way I felt out there today. I thought I felt relaxed and played some lovely shots. I made some nice putts too. Obviously, if you're going to win one of these championships, you can't afford to do the mistakes I had on 12 and 13."

- JASON DUFNER. who went out early and fired a 67, which shared the second- best score of the day: "It was good to get off early, get ahead of the conditions so to speak a little bit. I played really good today, and shot a decent number."

- PADRAIG HARRINGTON, the former champion predicted someone could go low to win the title: "There were a lot of soft pins out there, a lot of opportunities. Definitely a good day for scoring."
