Wells, No. 17 Maryland tops PSU

College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Dez Wells had 23 points and seven rebounds and No. 17 Maryland defeated Penn State 64-58 on Wednesday night.

Jake Layman was the only other double-digit scorer for Maryland (19-4, 7-3 Big Ten), finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Terrapins had dropped two of their last three games coming in.

D.J. Newbill posted 18 points, seven boards and five assists, while Geno Thorpe added 10 points for the Nittany Lions (14-9, 2-8), who have lost eight of their last 10 contests.
