WASHINGTON (AP) David Watford ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third to lead Hampton to a 37-19 victory over Howard on Friday night in the ATT Nation's Football Classic that served as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Watford completed 22 of 36 passes for 279 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown throw to Thomas Allen to open the scoring. The graduate transfer from Virginia has nine touchdown passes in three games for the Pirates (2-1). He also scored on runs of 9 and 5 yards.

Twarn Mixson had six receptions for 119 yards.

Aquanius Freeman had 18 carries for 129 yards for Howard (0-3). His 35 yard run in the second quarter produced the first points of the season for the Bison. He also ran in the two-point conversion. Jamie Cunningham had a touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion pass to Freeman, but also threw three interceptions.

Hampton finished with 459 total yards to 341 for Howard.
