Cutting weight is the fight before the fight for most UFC athletes. The only real positive of cutting weight is that many fighters manage to use the misery of extreme dieting and dehydration to distract themselves from the stress of anticipating a prize fight broadcast to millions.
On Friday afternoon, all the UFC 191 fighters except for middleweight Joe Riggs finished their first battles at the weigh-ins. Riggs missed weight by 1.5 pounds and has to drop it afterwards or else give up part of his purse.
Demetrious Johnson and his bitter rival John Dodson hit their flyweight marks and their championship main event is on for Saturday. Frank Mir just barely made the heavyweight limit of 266 pounds, and will out-weigh his opponent Andrei Arlovski by nearly 30 pounds.
