Jameel Warney scored 18 points, the last of which came on a dunk and gave him 1,000 for his career, and hot-shooting Stony Brook beat LIU Brooklyn in the NIT Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Warney made 8 of 9 field-goal attempts for Stony Brook (4-2), which shot a season-high 55 percent on 51 attempts, including 5 of 11 from 3-point range. Roland Nyama scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Rayshaun McGrew added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Carson Puriefoy scored 10.

Stony Brook, which led 36-31 at halftime, opened the second half with a 12-0 run, and held LIU Brooklyn (0-3) without a point for the first 6 ½ minutes.

Joel Hernandez scored 15 points to lead LIU Brooklyn, which made just 20 of 57 (35.1 percent) from the floor and 2 of 21 (9.5 percent) form 3-point range and was outrebounded 40-22.
