DURHAM, N.C. – The odds have to be that someday Wake Forest will again win a women's basketball game against Duke.
But from where the Deacons are sitting right now, that probably looks like a long way off.
Haley Peters had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the sophomore's first career double-double, leading four players in double figures as the Blue Devils walloped the Deacons 75-43 Thursday night for their 37th straight victory over their in-state rivals.
The streak is in a four-way tie nationally for the second longest active between a pair of conference foes. The longest is Stanford's 52-game streak over Washington State.
"Master of the obvious — you can't shoot 25 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line and get outrebounded by 15 and beat a ranked team," said Wake Forest coach Mike Petersen, whose team fell to the Blue Devils 76-58 Jan. 6 in Winston-Salem.
"I thought in the first half we had some pretty good looks that we didn't make, and they forced that some. They're long and they speed you up a little bit. We've got to shoot the ball better and we didn't shoot the ball very well."
Chelsea Douglas led Wake Forest with 11 points while Lakevia Boykin added 10. Secily Ray had 12 rebounds with six points.
"We go out there and play just like any other game," the sophomore Douglas said. "I don't feel like we get nervous or anything. We just go out and try to win. I don't think we think about the record or the streak, we just play. (Cameron) is just like any other gym."
Elizabeth Williams added 16 points, Chelsea Gray 12 and sophomore Richa Jackson her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in Duke's 27th straight ACC win at home. Duke had a 34-game home-court winning streak snapped in Monday's 61-45 loss to Connecticut.
"I liked our aggressiveness," said Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie, whose team leads the series 55-16. "We're getting more aggressive, which is a good thing. Rebounding-wise I really liked Richa and Haley and Elizabeth (nine rebounds). We were trying to get three double-doubles and we were practically there. That speaks to aggression and that's really, really important to us. . It was pretty painful to watch that (Connecticut) video. It was not a very pleasant experience and I don't think you learn them all for the next game. I think you apply some of them."
Duke shot 43.9 percent from the floor to 25.0 for the Deacons, won the rebound battle 54-39 and committed 23 turnovers to Wake Forest's 27.
Duke, which beat Wake Forest 76-58 on Jan. 6 in Winston-Salem, led 36-19 at halftime behind 13 points from Peters.
After a three-point play from Brooke Thomas at 18:07 left tied the score at 5-5, Duke went on a 10-2 run including seven points from Peters.
Williams had three blocks, stretching her ACC freshman record with 79.
